Instructor Profiles:
The "Teaching History With Technology" workshop is taught by Tom Daccord, Academic Technology Advocate for the Humanities (English, History and Classics) at the Noble and Greenough School and a veteran history teacher. Mr. Daccord is creator and webmaster of Best of History Web Sites, an award-winning portal that receives upwards of 125,000 visitors per month and two million visitors a year. He is also president of The Center for Teaching History with Technology, an organization with 1900 subscribers, whose mission is to to help K-12 history and social studies teachers incorporate technology effectively into their courses. Mr. Daccord is also the creator and webmaster of "Teaching Literature & Writing With Technology," designed to help English and Language Arts teachers incorporate technology effectively into their courses. A "laptop teacher" who has instructed in a wireless laptop environment for the last six years, Mr. Daccord has been featured in the Boston Globe ("Making Tech Connect," December 29, 2003) for his contributions to teaching with technology. He has presented on educational technology topics at the National Association of Independent Schools Annual Conference, the Laptop Institute in Memphis, the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools Technology Conference, and also runs various onsite and online technology workshops. He also serves as a consultant to the WGBH American Experience New Media team and is authoring two books on educational technology due out in 2007: Best of History Web Sites and The Teacher's Guide to Teaching Humanities with Technology.
The "Teaching English and Language Arts With Technology" workshop will be taught by Tom Daccord and Carla Beard. Ms. Beard is a veteran English teacher and educational technology integrationist who has presented at conventions and workshops nationally. Ms. Beard is creator and webmaster of the award-winning Web English Teacher, a popular web portal that presents the best of K-12 English / Language Arts teaching resources: lesson plans, WebQuests, videos, biography, e-texts, criticism, classroom activities and more. Ms. Beard has written and presented extensively on technology in the English/Language Arts curriculum, including a National Council of Teachers of English presentation entitled "Technology and English/Language Arts." In 2004 she was named to the Educator Advisory Board of AOL@School and has also served as National Teacher Advisor for Cable in the Classroom. She has also evaluated National Endowment for the Humanities grant applications in technology. Currently the English Department Chair at Connersville High School in Indiana, Ms. Beard has converted all English/Language Arts classrooms at her school to computer classrooms and regularly leads inservice sessions on using technology effectively.
"Teaching History With Technology" Workshop
July 9-12, 2007 in Greater Boston
The fifth-annual "Teaching History With Technology Workshop" is an intensive four-day "hands-on" opportunity for history and social studies teachers and professors to explore practical ways to use technology to enrich the history curriculum and engage students. The workshop will explore innovative ideas, effective techniques, and ready-made plans for incorporating Web-based resources, desktop software packages and new and emerging technologies into classroom instruction of history. The workshop will be held at the Noble and Greenough School in Greater Boston. Each participant will be supplied with a computer for the duration of the workshop and have extended "hands-on" time to master the information and skills presented. Class begins at 9am and ends at 3:30 pm. Space is limited to 18 participants in order to maximize individual attention. Cost is $575.00. Professional development credits are available.

The workshop will explore innovative ideas, effective techniques, and ready-made plans for incorporating Web-based resources, desktop software packages and new and emerging technologies into classroom instruction of history. The workshop will be held at the Noble and Greenough School in Greater Boston. Each participant will be supplied with a computer for the duration of the workshop and have extended "hands-on" time to master the information and skills presented.
